Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most people seek counselling because they want to change something about their lives,  overcome negative aspects, or develop a more better mindset or pattern of behavior.

Counselling aims to help you overcome challenges. It provides a safe and regular space for you to talk about difficult feelings and thoughts, and explore how you can improve your life. The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views, and sometimes challenging you to overcome ineffective patterns of thought or behavior.

Through this process, you can find insights and develop different perceptions, ultimately aimed at overcoming  problematic patterns and charting a course to a better life. You may also explore alternative ways of facing life's challenges. Sometimes when we struggle with a particular challenge, such as pornography, we need the strategies and practical help that counseling provides by getting to the root underlying cause, if we are serious about breaking the entrenched patterns that have kept us stuck there.

  • I have chosen not to work with insurance companies at this time so that I can focus on providing you with the counseling that meets your actual needs instead of what an insurance company decides for you.

Just after university, I worked in an insurance company and saw the things they do to client care, things that do not live up to my ethical standards.

Moreover, many insurances require that deductibles are met prior to insurance benefit dispersement. Often, deductibles are between $1,000-3,000 and are unmet at the time I see you. This means you would have to pay out of pocket for counseling expenses anyway.

Insurance companies also restrict you to a narrow list of approved clinicians, often within ideological lines, and so effectively disempowering your ability to choose whom to trust with your counseling needs.

If you are part of a health-share program or group that offers reimbursement for counseling services, there may be the possibility of your being reimbursed by your health-share program and you should ask them what documentation they will require.

I am happy to discuss payment options with you. Book a consultation call with me today and we can arrive at the right solution for you.
